“Friendship is deathless. I remember and respect those who will always hold a special place in my life.”
I moved to Racine, Wisconsin in June of 2015. I knew no one, was apprehensive about the reality that there were 5 million Lutherans and one-tenth of one percent Jews living in the big state. But one thing led to another and my wife and I met Brad and his wife Rose during a street fair. I traded him one of my books for his reconditioned cast iron frying pan and we’ve been close since them. How close? They introduced me to our lawyer, our accountant, and our construction person who had to refit my house for Joy after her rapid decline due to cancer. Rose became close to Joy in her brief time living in Racine.

Years later, as they got to know my new love Nancy, they were equally gracious to her. Eventually, after a zillion conversations, Brad served as the minister to marry me and Nancy. Even though she is Spiritual, I am Jewish and Brad is Evangelical Christian... it didn’t matter. We created the wedding vows ourselves and close to one hundred people were there.
